Chateau de Courtomer is an exquisite 18th-century country house, set in the midst of its own parklands, fields, and pastures in bucolic Normandy. The current owners have embellished this grand monument of the Ancien Régime with 21st-century standards of comfort and convenience—without yielding an iota of the chateau’s elegance and charm.

Although the chateau de Courtomer was built as a showplace to celebrate the prestige and power of the marquisate of Courtomer, it was also a family seat…a home with a history. Successive generations of the Saint-Simon family were born here, married, brought up children, and are buried in the family chapels adjoining the village cemetery. They took part in France’s national and literary heritage, serving her kings and entertaining her men of letters.

You and your guests will also find the chateau de Courtomer a congenial place to work or play. Start your day with a walk or a jog through the chateau’s 20 hectares of park and woodlands (where you may surprise deer grazing or admire the chateau’s herd of registered Limousine cattle) …and breakfast in the sun of the “cour d’honneur”. The accommodations were lovely. Well equipped and comfortable with a fantastic view over the grounds. The chateau is in a gorgeous country setting. If you go there, be sure to take a stroll into the nearby village to savour fresh-baked croissants and fabulous cider, crafted using traditional methods and locally grown produce.

I had such a wonderful time staying at Chateau de Courtomer in France. I felt like I was living during the time when the Chateau was a part of France's rich history. The little town of Courtomer has an open air market which we visited quite often. Getting to the chateau posed no problem. We rented a car in Paris and drove to Courtomer. The location of the chateau is perfect as it provides the opportunity to do day trips to surrounding French towns such as LeMans, Caen...even driving to the beaches of Normandy. The little village of Courtomer is within walking distance making it convenient to pick up extra groceries, wine and other items.

I highly recommend Chateau de Courtomer. We're already talking about a return visit.
