Chateau de Courtomer, French chateau to rent in Normandy

Built upon the ruins of a medieval castle, this historic French chateau was completed in 1789 for Antoine de Saint-Simon, Marquis de Courtomer. Located in the Normandy region, about 160 km west of Paris, the entire structure of 17,500 sq. ft. has under-gone extensive renovation, preserving all of the 18th century architectural details while adding modern convenience and comforts.  The chateau is also on an old Roman road leading through Normandy to the English Channel. The Chateau de Courtomer, modeled on the north wing of Versailles, is listed on the National Register of Historic Monuments.

The property comprises 365 acres, of which some 20 acres are in park, the rest actively farmed. There are stables with over 30 stalls, a glacière  for keeping ice, a spring-fed pool (used in days of yore for washing laundry), and a rare Protestant temple, also listed on the National Register of Monuments. Modeled after the north wing of the Great Courtyard at Versailles, the Chateau de Courtomer is an historic monument and treasure and a most impressive home in the French countryside.
